Method development is one of the most time-consuming activities in a chromatographers work. To fulfil the requirements in this field regarding quality, speed, costs and robustness YMC offers a set of 5 short columns of 33 or 50 mm length enabling rapid screening of selectivities. Of course all YMC stationary phases can be freely chosen giving you the chance to adjust the kit to the separation problem under investigation.
The separation of 9 basic drugs shall demonstrate the ease and convenience of YMC column kits for methods development. In order to identify the most appropriate selectivity of YMC stationary
phases, 5 short columns enable rapid screening of YMC bonded surface chemistries. In combination with a column switching valve this method
development can be done overnight with different eluents and/or gradients.

The figures below show the different patterns in the chromatograms. This gives you the possibility to optimise your separation with a longer analytical column in respect to resolution of your critical peak pairs and impurities. Note that in this case only C18 phases have been used. Of
course the use of other selectivities is possible within the method development kit, thereby widening the possibilities for your separation.

After the fast screening procedure YMCbasic turns out to be
the most appropriate selectivity to develop a robust method
for the solution of this particular chromatographic problem.
The peaks for all nine compounds are nearly baseline separated,
so that a slight optimisation of column dimensions and/or chromatographic conditions will result in a good and robust
HPLC separation.

For ordering our method development kits please select five different stationary phases from the YMC portfolio, a
complete list can be found here.
Simply select the desired inner diameter and the appropriate column length (33 or 50 mm) from one of the two
charts above and add the five selectivities to the given product code e.g. ME-04S Pro C18, J’sphere ODS-L80,
Butyl, PVA-SIL, Protein-RP. The last letter in the product code indicates if a column kit “S” or a cartridge kit “C” is
required (for details please refer to the illustrations above). For method development kits the smallest particle
size available for each particular selectivity is the preferred choice, unless otherwise specified. |
