Analysis of many polymers has an additional complication
in that apart from determination of functional groups, etc, such compounds do not vary in chemical composition but their functionality varies as a function of molecular size. Therefore Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) can be employed to further characterise polymeric materials.
SEC is divided into Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) which is performed using organic mobile phases and Gel Filtration Chromatography (GFC) which is carried out in aqueous eluent systems.
